The End… Ever Living for the Everlasting
“Why would a God do that? Send His Son to die for ordinary people?”
In Yann Martel’s bestseller The Life of Pi, a Hindu boy named Pi meets a catholic priest, Father Martin, who tells Pi the story of the gospel-the defining moment in the story of God and His people, the life, death, resurrection of Jesus. Pi asks for more: “I asked for another story, one that I might find more satisfying. Surely this religion had more than one story in its bag—religions abound with stories. But Father Martin made me understand that… their religious had one Story, and to it they came back again and again, over and over. It was story enough for them.”
Father Martin is right… Christianity has one Story, and to it we come back again and again, over and over. It is story enough for us.”
In the ever-changing story of our lives, our hope lies in coming back again and again to One Story. It is because this Story never changes that it is enough.
Change brings about endings to chapters within our own story—depending upon what ends, we love change or hate. Because of this one Story, to which the story of Daniel points us, we can face change with hope and even thankfulness. In fact, we can embrace endings—ever living expectantly.
In the weeks ahead, spending time together in the book of Daniel, if we let Him, God will transform the way we embrace endings by enabling us to grasp and live for what is everlasting.
